Westlife’s Shane Filan Declares Bankrupcy: Boy Band Member’s Property Empire Collapses
First Irish boy band-turned-man band Westlife announced their impending disbandment back in October, and now member Shane Filan has filed for bankruptcy. Talk about a string of bad luck! The 32-year-old singer launched the property management company, Shafin Developments Limited, with his brother Finbarr back in 2004, you know, in case the whole boy band thing ever fell through. But even celebrity ventures are not immune to the global financial crisis, and the company went into receivership last month. Now, the performer has been forced to go bankrupt. “Together with a team of financial and legal experts I have spent months exploring all possible alternatives to bankruptcy but to no avail,” Shane said in a statement to The Mirror. “I have worked long and hard to try to reduce my debts, and I am devastated that it came to this conclusion,” he added. “I now intend to focus on the remaining dates of the Westlife tour and my commitments to the band before looking to rebuild a future for my wife, my three children and myself,” the singer said. Westlife is in the midst of their final tour, and will split after 14 years together at the end of the trek. Hopefully Shane will be able to get his life back on track.
